| Snorkle or Dive Chinchorro Reef
Chinchorro is an immense coral reef more than 30 miles long, and as much as 9 miles wide. An ancient mountain top reaching just to the surface of the Yucatan Channel viewed from the air, it is actually similar in shape and size to nearby Cozumel island. But the reef is almost entirely submerged, its coral peaks and ridges reaching to just below the surface. As a result, Chinchorro is the resting place of many a shipwreck, some dating back hundreds of years to the time of the Conquistadors not to mention all the beautiful and diverse marine life. Whether you are an experienced diver, a beginning snorkler or anywhere inbetween you will marvel at the beauty of Chinchorro. |
